Live at the Library is an award winning program which brings live music to our library once a month. These concerts are free to the public and are attracting larger and larger crowds each month. This inaugural season in the Patrick Heath Public Library has shown us that we are hitting the right nerve in our community by focusing on cultural enrichment through music. As time goes on, we hope to bring a wider variety of musicians to perform. If we can’t attract a patron with books, we’ll get them with music!
What We Hear
Many patrons who came through the front door on those Tuesday nights were amazed to be faced with the sights and sounds of music. They accidentally discovered musical genres they had never heard before. It was especially rewarding to discover kids dancing in the aisles and seeing obvious interest from our perennially jaded teens. On the other hand, we saw patrons who had never come to the library before, but they were there because they knew we were offering music.
The initial idea was to bring cultural awareness, through live music by a wide variety of artists, to the community, but the success of the program has far exceeded all our expectations! By providing music as just another fun thing for patrons to do at the library we have brought attention to the fact that libraries no longer are the musty, quiet places they were decades ago. This program has been a winning formula for all our traditional and non-traditional patrons, as well as the library and its staff! We plan to continue this service for many years to come.
