BMSN National History Day Team to perform at the PHPL

Our Birthday Wish List is this month's gallery exhibit at the Patrick Heath Public Library. We are highlighting programming and equipment needs and we hope that you will come browse the exhibit and help us reach our fund raising goals. Donations can be made on-line or by cash or check (made out to the Boerne Public Library Foundation).
Peggy Bowie, Celeste Wall and Ben Adam - all members of the Foundation Board - worked to bring the Wish List to life.
This past week's celebration of Poetry brought out local poets to the library. We are honored that our own Board President, Roberta Belanger agreed to let us share an original poem of hers.
Sweet Marie
By Roberta Belanger
March 12, 2012
I drove in the fog for hours on end
headed to Cajun Country to see my friend.
Sweet Marie, born from Mother Earth.
She’s an old soul, wise since birth.
Living on the bayou all these years,
She’s got some tales to tell that’ll make you shed tears.
She cooks a mean jambalaya and gumbo too,
The secret of course is all in the roux.
She strums Joel Le Blan on her fiddle strings
Her voice soars to heaven as if it had wings.
She’s weathered some storms and picked up the pieces.
All those hurricanes made her stronger she says.
When I get there I know I won’t want to leave
With so much to share, so many stories to weave.
Though our time may be brief and soon we’ll both know
I’ll be back on the road; it’ll be time to go.
Until the next time I travel to see Sweet Marie
Living down on the bayou in Cajun Country.

This year marks the 60th Birthday of the Boerne Public Library and we have so much to celebrate! Better library DO build better communities. To help in this celebration, we are hosting a 60th Birthday Party on June 2. In conjunction with the library, we have created a Birthday Wish List. Please visit the Birthday party page to see the list and help fulfill our birthday wishes.

The windmill at sunset
The windmill is fully installed and is a wonderful addition to the library grounds in the Heritage Plaza. We are very grateful to everyone that contributed to this project.
Zydeco Blanco performing at Tuesday's Live at the Library.
The sounds of Zydeco coming off of the back lawn of the PHPL had everyone tapping their feet and moving to the rhythm of some cajun goodness. The evening breeze, the sun set, great food and excellent music made this month's Live at the Library concert one of our best. About 80 people came out to enjoy the music.

April is student art month and this year, the PHPL is hosting the BISD art exhibits. Our library is packed with amazing art from the entire district!

We invite you to come enjoy the talent of art students in Boerne.
This past Friday, after many weeks of anticipation, the installation began on the windmill for the grounds of the library. We are very grateful to the community and to Whiting Turner for providing the funding needed to deliver, refurbish and install the windmill and water holding tank.

Mark your calendars!
The Golden Legacy: Original Art from the 65 Years of Golden Books exhibit will arrive for all to enjoy this June 1st. We are excited that this exhibit is available through the NCCIL and will display the entire summer.

This year's Festival spans several days of events at the Patrick Heat Public Library - celebrating "home-grown poets". We are excited to welcome Poet Laureates David Parsons and Karla Morton. There is poetry for everyone!
When the Patrick Heath Public Library opened, last summer, we were fortunate that The World of William Joyce exhibit graced the Art Gallery and many walls of the library.
William Joyce was recently awarded an Oscar for an animated feature. Take a look at his extraordinary work:

The Friends of the Boerne Public Library are having their 30th annual Book Sale at the Kendall County Fairgrounds this weekend.
Schedule:

Saturday, March 3 9am - 5pm
Sunday, March 4 10am - 5pm

Ryan Travis and Rachel Hubbard performed to a crowd of 90 guests for our Live at the Library concert on Valentine's Day. What a treat it was to enjoy this duo! We are grateful to Peggy and Michael Bowie for underwriting this concert.
Our outdoor spaces are a treasure trove of information and an opportunity for further education, beyond the walls of the library. The City of Boerne is working to refurbish and re-install a donated windmill on the grounds of the PHPL. To make this possible we need to raise $8000.
"The library is an oasis in a desert of ignorance." - Barrie Greenslade
Thank you Barrie for all that you do for us. Your friendship is valuable beyond measure.
The men of San Antonio Gold brought in over 120 guests for Live at the Library this past Tuesday evening.
As many know, Live at the Library is one of the library's most successful programs. As the 2011/2012 Seasoned opened in the new Patrick Heath Public Library, we were excited by the increased space and the promise of larger crowds. The interest from our community has grown as word has spread about the concerts. The lure of free food and wine certainly doesn't hurt the argument to attend these intimate concerts either. On more than one occasion attendees have joked that they never would have stepped foot into our amazing library had it not been for a concert of interest. In light of comments such as those, we know that this program is serving it's purpose; to attract non-traditional patrons by offering cultural enrichment through music.
My feet are heavy but my heart is light,
the PHPL is dressed shiny and bright.
I wish I could be a fly on the wall
to see the faces of one and all.
As they enter the library and look all around
wonder and magic and cheer will abound.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
- Roberta Belanger
We are honored to underwrite this year's performance of the Nutracker Sweets. The ballet program is providing young girls and boys with the opportunity to learn the art of ballet free of charge. The Christmas performance is December 12th at the Boerne Community Center.
